Three W2R veterans were on hand for the Washington DC Region SCCA Helmets Off to Heroes event at the Shenandoah Circuit, Summit Point, WV.
The WDCR SCCA HOTH event is an HPDE event where veterans can drive for free and is held annually.
Drew B. certainly travelled the furthest coming from Ohio to participate in the event. He brought his Miata to the event and was paired up with an SCCA regional champion as his instructor. Speeds were up and lap times were down by the end of the session!
Ed McLean brought his Corvette C8 to the event and ran strictly as a participant - something he hadn't done in a very long time (he's usually instructing).
Sean C. was also on hand to help with handing out our W2R business cards and to talk about the program.
W2R has in the works for 2024 an HPDE-like event for severely disabled vets. While at the event, Ed and Sean were able to meet with the HOTH organizer to discuss the potential of working together so that the events would coincide with each other. Ed and Sean also met with Greg Haas, Road Racing Coordinator for Summit Point, and Jimmy Johnson, CEO for Xtreme Xperience, and discussed the event. Greg was already working with us on the event concept and Jimmy offered to have the supercars available for instructor-driven ride-alongs for the severely disabled vets as long as it meshed with his very heavy calendar for next year (they have over 50 events scheduled for 2024).
